What to Expect
Woo hoo! We’re so excited that you and your furry friend have joined UpDog Gym! Below are some tips and reminders to prepare for your first session. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Before your first session:
Please complete the following actions before our first visit to your home.
-
You should receive and complete a waiver and service agreement by email, if you have not received them yet please let us know.
-
email your dogs vaccine records to info@updoggym.com
-
Let us know if parking is difficult in your immediate area. The UpDog Gym van is about 24 feet long and a level surface provides the best running experience. Let us know if we should expect difficulties with parking due to traffic, underdeveloped surfaces, steep hills, or other hazards. We will scope out the area prior to your appointment to determine the best place to park. If parking is unavailable we are able to safely transport dogs short distances to a better location for their appointment.
-
If possible, please clip your dog's nails a couple days before their first session. Short nails make it easier for your dog to walk on the treadmills and can help set them up for success.
Things to do the day of your session before we arrive:
Food; please do not feed your dog for two hours before the session. Feeding too close to exercise causes upset tummies. Make sure they still have access to water.
Bathroom; we will send you an update through call or text when we are on our way. Please take your dog to the bathroom before we arrive.
What to bring to your session:
We have everything we need on board (except you and your dog!) including no-chafe running harnesses in sizes XS-XXXL, water and a selection of toys and treats.
If your dog has food allergies or may be picky about treats, bring some of their favorite high value (irresistible!) treats along (ex: deli meat, chicken, hot dogs, cheese, etc). If your dog has a strong retrieve drive, really likes to chase balls or tug on toys, feel free to bring their favorite toy along.
If you want to bring a guest there is room for you and 1-2 additional people. The UpDog Gym van comfortably fits up to 4 people and 3 dogs. We have one comfy VIP chair for you and the rest is standing room only.
What to expect during your session:
The standard session length is 30 minutes including setup, introduction, breaks, cool down and time on the treadmills. Each dog’s session is tailored to their fitness level and their comfort with the equipment. Each dog is different, so we go at their pace. Some dogs are up and running within a few minutes, while others take a few sessions to become comfortable with the equipment. We don’t push or rush them initially because we want them to feel comfortable and safe as they encounter this new experience.
Clean Up:
We clean and sanitize the van in between clients at the end of each session. We usually do this after you have gone back inside while still parked outside of your house. If you need us to move for any reason (if we’re blocking your car in for instance), just let us know.
